Accounting made simple
The four things people ask about most, in plain words.
Self Assessment
Once a year, HMRC asks some people to report what they earned. That report is a Self Assessment tax return, and the online deadline is 31 January. If you're self-employed, a landlord, or earn money outside a payslip job, it probably applies to you.
VAT
VAT is a tax added to most things a business sells. Once your sales over 12 months pass £90,000, you must register and charge it. We watch your turnover and tell you before you get there.
Making Tax Digital
MTD is HMRC's move from one yearly form to digital records and regular updates sent through software. It applies to more people each year, starting with the self-employed and landlords. We set the software up and send the updates for you.
What a limited company must file
Every Ltd files accounts and a confirmation statement with Companies House each year, plus a Corporation Tax return to HMRC. Miss one and there's an automatic penalty. We keep that diary so you don't have to.

What clients tell us
They told me the price on the first call and it hasn't changed since. My VAT just gets filed — I get a text when it's done.
I can ask in Polish and get the answer in Polish. It's the first time I understand every letter HMRC sends me.
They sorted two late returns in my first month and explained what I actually owed. No lecture, just fixed it.
Questions people ask us
How much will it cost me?
One clear monthly price, agreed before you start — sole traders from £45 a month, limited companies from £95. You hear your figure before you decide anything, and it doesn't change unless you agree a change first. The first chat is free.
Should I be a sole trader or a limited company?
It depends on your profit, your risk and your plans. A limited company can save tax at some profit levels, but it comes with more filing. And if you live in Scotland, you pay Scottish rates of income tax on wages and profits — the bands differ from the rest of the UK. We'll do the sums both ways with you in the free chat.
What does a limited company have to file?
Each year: accounts and a confirmation statement to Companies House, and a Corporation Tax return to HMRC. If you run payroll or you're VAT-registered, those returns too. Miss a filing and there's an automatic penalty, so we keep the diary for you.
What is Making Tax Digital? Does it affect me?
It's HMRC's move from yearly forms to digital records and updates sent through software. It applies to more people each stage, starting with the self-employed and landlords. We check which stage applies to you, set up the software and send the updates.
When do I have to register for VAT?
When your sales over any 12 months pass £90,000 — HMRC's registration threshold. We watch your turnover and tell you before you reach it, so registering is planned, not a panic.
I already have an accountant. Is switching hard?
No. You tell your old accountant you're moving, and we request your records from them. It's a normal, polite handover that accountants do all the time — most of it happens without you.
Do you really speak Polish and Czech?
Yes. You can have the whole conversation in Polish or Czech if that's easier. HMRC's letters still arrive in English, and we'll tell you what they mean — in whichever language you prefer.
What happens if I miss the 31 January deadline?
HMRC charges an automatic penalty, and it grows the longer the return sits unfiled. Don't ignore it — the sooner it's in, the less it costs. Call us and we'll get you caught up.
